Who We Are

Robert Knight

Manager of Knight Architect LLC

Knight Architect LLC is a successor Knight Associates Inc. where Bob was president.  Knight Associates was an outgrowth of the one-person office that he founded in 1977, and now Bob and Lucia are back in an office in their house.  Bob generates the initial building concepts for our projects and then when the design needs to evolve into construction documents he will guide you to collaborators who will provide those services.

A member of the Maine Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, Bob served on its Executive Committee for 10 years, and as chapter president in 1985.  He is a member of National Trust for Historic Preservation.  He taught the first “Design and Build” studio at UCLA’s School of Architecture and Urban Design, was a Lecturer in Design at California Polytechnic Institute in Pomona, and has taught design studios at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor. His book, A House on the Water, was published in 2003 by Taunton Press.

Bob graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with an A.B. Degree majoring in Architecture in 1966, followed by a Master of Architecture degree from Yale University in 1970.  He has been registered in the State of Maine since 1977, and with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) since 1988.

In 2016 the firm name changed from Knight Associates Inc. to Knight Architect LLC and moved to Brooksville, ME.

Bob and Lucia’s retriever Hazel leads the welcoming committee in Brooksville.

Lucia del Sol Knight

Lucia came up with idea for, and assembled the portfolio of Lucia’s Little Houses. Running the business sides of Lucia’s Little Houses, Knight Associates and Knight Architect LLC, she has been responsible for the management of money in the firm since 1980.  Spending, billing, collecting, accounting, stretching, investing, borrowing, arguing over it, and celebrating it take up almost all of her time.

Along with Dan MacNaughton, she is the co-editor of The Encyclopedia of Yacht Designers, published by W.W. Norton in 2005. She has worked at WoodenBoat Magazine, Harcourt Brace & World Publishers, UCLA’s Graduate School of Management, and New York University’s Graduate School of Economics.
