Who We Are

Robert Knight

Robert Knight is president of Knight Associates, which is an outgrowth of the one-person office that he founded in 1977.  Bob generates the initial building concepts for most of our projects and then collaborates with one of our project architects in the design development stage.  He stays active throughout the job and will be involved in consultation with our clients when the project architect is running the job during working drawings and construction phases of the project.

A member of the Maine Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, Bob served on its Executive Committee for 10 years, and as chapter president in 1985.  He is a member of National Trust for Historic Preservation.  He taught the first “Design and Build” studio at UCLA’s School of Architecture and Urban Design, was a Lecturer in Design at California Polytechnic Institute in Pomona, and has taught design studios at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor. His book, A House on the Water, was published in 2003 by Taunton Press. Bob and Lucia’s retriever Emma leads the welcoming committee.

Bob graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with an A.B. Degree majoring in Architecture in 1966, followed by a Master of Architecture degree from Yale University in 1970.  He has been registered in the State of Maine since 1977, and with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) since 1988.

Peter M. d’Entremont

Peter d’Entremont joined the firm in 1987.  He is a registered architect (Pennsylvania, 1976), and has extensive field experience in residential construction.  Peter directs the firm’s research in construction techniques and energy efficiency.  Peter manages selected projects, handling all aspects of the design and construction and client contact. In addition, Peter oversees all aspects of the firm’s construction documents’ production.

Peter was a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Energy Efficiency and has lectured to various audiences on this topic.  Before joining this firm, Peter was an architect as well as a partner in construction firms.  Past work is located in Pennsylvania, New York, and New England. Phoebe, Peter’s terrier mix, is a winning member of the welcoming committee.

Peter has a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Minnesota, receiving the A.I.A.  medal for highest scholastic achievement.

Lucia del Sol Knight

Director, Lucia’s Little Houses

Lucia represents the firm’s small-house plan business, Lucia’s Little Houses. Running the business sides of Lucia’s Little Houses and Knight Associates, she has been responsible for the management of money in the firm since 1980.  Spending, billing, collecting, accounting, stretching, investing, borrowing, arguing over it, and celebrating it take up almost all of her time.

Along with Dan MacNaughton, she is the co-editor of The Encyclopedia of Yacht Designers, published by W.W. Norton in 2005. She has worked at WoodenBoat Magazine, Harcourt Brace & World Publishers, UCLA’s Graduate School of Management, and New York University’s Graduate School of Economics.

Richard A. Manzo

Project Architect

Returning to Knight Associates in 2003, project architect Richard Manzo participates in residential design, engineering, drafting, and project management. Through his engineering experience he brings a strong background in sustainable building technology and current building design practice.

Over the last 30 years, Richard has worked in the Design and Engineering Departments at the University of Maine, Orono, Great Northern Paper Company in Millinocket, and M.D. Hardy of Hampden, as well as for Robert Knight Architect back in 1986 and as a self-employed provider of design and drafting services for architects and engineers.

Richard graduated from the Building Construction Technology program at EMVTI in 1976 and continues classes at the University of Maine, Orono in structural engineering.

Adrienne d’Entremont Burt

Interior Designer

Adrienne re-joined the firm in 2008, providing interior design and product selection assistance as well as drafting support. She also directs the firm’s research in Green Building technologies and practices and is working towards becoming a LEED for Home Accredited Professional.

Though beginning her professional career in Human Resources for ARAMARK Uniform and Career Apparel, she soon realized that interior design and architecture are in her blood and joined Knight Associates part-time to explore career options. A move to Boston, coursework at the Boston Architectural College and a job at IKEA managing the home furnishing consultants followed. She decided in 2008 that a return to country life was in order, and has been dabbling in gardening and raising chickens with varying degrees of success.

Adrienne graduated from Cornell University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in Hotel Administration.
